Daily Devotional #1,484

I went out to get something out of my car after dark and just as I stood up, I hear…a peacock! Someone in our neighborhood owns a peacock!! When I was a kid, my folks would take me to the zoo and one of the things they had in those days were peacocks that roamed freely all over the zoo property. I got to know their “voice” because of the experience of having them around me as I looked at the animals in the zoo. And as soon as I heard that cry the other night, I knew for certain that was a peacock. I thought about that. I knew the voice because I had experienced peacocks before. Jesus was talking about his role as a shepherd one day and he said that he knows his own sheep, by name and he leads them. And then he said that his sheep will follow him because they know his voice. And if a stranger calls out to them…they will run away, because they don’t know his voice. So, get so you can recognize the voice of the good shepherd. Listen to his voice from the words of the Bible and then even in your heart. Don’t listen to the voices out there that you don’t recognize. Listen for the one who calls you to come to him and to experience his love and mercy and protection. Those who know him will know him immediately, those who don’t won’t have any idea of what they are hearing. And if you don’t know his voice? Well, he is ready to talk to your heart anytime you choose to open up that Bible and then come to him in prayer. Don’t worry…you’ll get so you know your shepherd from the stranger.

Here’s our Bible verse for today…

John 10:3-5 NLT "The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep recognize his voice and come to him. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. (4) After he has gathered his own flock, he walks ahead of them, and they follow him because they know his voice. (5) They won’t follow a stranger; they will run from him because they don’t know his voice.”

Remember I'm praying for you...
