How often do we say things that we shouldn’t? I bet all of us right now can think of all kinds of situations
where it would have been better if we had just been silent. Our words have great power to heal or to hurt,
encourage or enrage or to bring comfort or to cripple. And we actually have the power to control what we say.
The Bible tells us that our tongues are incredibly difficult to tame. As a matter of fact, the Bible tells us that if
we could control our tongues, we would be perfect…and if we could control that part of us, we could control
ourselves in every other way! I have to admit that when I read the book of Revelation, I think hard about this
verse…Revelation 8:1 NLT When the Lamb broke the seventh seal on the scroll, there was silence throughout
heaven for about half an hour. Silence isn’t bad and we need to decide that as representatives of this Jesus of
the Bible, maybe we need to sometimes just hold that tongue of ours. As adopted children of God, we are to act
like our Father in heaven, with love and grace and forgiveness. There are times when we need to confront
wrong and to face down evil, but there are a lot of times when we speak out of our own hurt and anger and
envy. Your words are powerful, but if they are without the love that God has poured out on us, we are told that
we are but clanging cymbals or noisy gongs. So, be quick to listen and slow to speak and most of all be slow to
anger. Your words have great power to do good or evil…slow down, choose wisely and make God look good
today by what you say and how you say it.
Here’s our Bible verse for today…
James 3:2 NLT Indeed, we all make many mistakes. For if we could control our tongues, we would be perfect and could also control ourselves in every other way.
Remember I’m praying for you…
