Daily Devotional #1,482

People who are at the top of some skill set are people who live on repetition. I always think of NFL football players, many of them have had 10 years of organized football before they join a professional football team. And then they practice and practice and practice. They watch videos and study plays and talk in groups about what they are supposed to do on any given Sunday. For the believers of this Jesus of the Bible, it comes down to the same things. We read and read again what the Bible says, about who God is, what he wants us to do and the promises he makes. And we do it because…we forget. Things crowd into our hearts and minds and sometimes the things of God fade into second place. Jesus gave us the gift of the Lord’s Supper for that very reason. He took bread and the cup and said that this was his body and blood…and to do these things in remembrance of him. So that we are continually reminded of his sacrifice on the cross and what it provided for us. So don’t hesitate to read and reread that Bible of yours and even the verses that have become so familiar to you. And listen again to a message online…because you will realize how fast things fade away. You might know that truth, but God wants you and me to be reminded of the things we have been taught and to stand firm in the truth that we have learned. Let yourself be reminded each Sunday when you attend church…and don’t be hesitant to remind others in an encouraging way. Remember the truth, hold on to the truth and live the truth that God has given to you and me.

Here’s our Bible verse for today…

2 Peter 1:12-15 NLT Therefore, I will always remind you about these things—even though you already know them and are standing firm in the truth you have been taught. (13) And it is only right that I should keep on reminding you as long as I live. (14) For our Lord Jesus Christ has shown me that I must soon leave this earthly life, (15) so I will work hard to make sure you always remember these things after I am gone.

Remember I’m praying for you…
