Quail Lake Community Church

Daily Devotional #1,481

I had kind of a wake-up call as to how good and faithful God has been…to me! We had a baby dedication at our church on Sunday. It was for the son of one of our young couples I regularly work with. The extended family and I have been together for nearly 30 years. On Sunday, the couple brought their young son into the Chapel, and I checked in with the little guy since I was going to be holding him for the prayer of dedication. The new mom smiled and said, “Do you recognize the jumper he is wearing?" I thought that had to be a gift that we had given them at a baby shower. But I really didn’t remember so I just kind of smiled. She said that jumper that our son is wearing today is the same jumper that my husband wore when you dedicated him 27 years ago! I couldn’t believe it and I asked the youngster’s grandmother how that thing had lasted 27 plus years. She said “When we dedicated our son that Sunday, I took the jumper and put it into a sealable plastic bag and put it with some other baby mementos. And when the kids talked about having him dedicated today, I found that stash and there it was, looking as new as the day his father wore it. I laughed and just shook my head. I thought how I started serving as a pastor nearly 45 years ago. And I thought what a privilege this has been. And how faithful and good God has been. I don’t know how long I’ll be able to continue…but whatever he wants, he’ll make happen. So, remember that serving God and God’s people really is a wonderful opportunity that God allows any of us to have. Don’t be afraid to invest your life in the people that God loves. He will give you all you need, and he promises that the days, weeks or even years that you get to do that are not forgotten by God. As it says in the book of Hebrews “…keep on loving others as long as life lasts, in order to make certain that what you hope for will come true.” And that is that people who are so loved by God will actually get to know that love and receive it.

Here’s our Bible verse for today…

Hebrews 6:10-12 NLT For God is not unjust. He will not forget how hard you have worked for him and how you have shown your love to him by caring for other believers, as you still do. (11) Our great desire is that you will keep on loving others as long as life lasts, in order to make certain that what you hope for will come true. (12) Then you will not become spiritually dull and indifferent. Instead, you will follow the example of those who are going to inherit God’s promises because of their faith and endurance.

Remember I’m praying for you…
Pastor Joe
