Daily Devotional #1,473

As I go through my day, I might feel older, but I think I look younger! When I get up in the morning and look in the mirror, I kind of sigh and realize that I’ve got significant years and mileage on me. But it is a new day and I’m glad to have the opportunity to live with God and my family for another day. However, as the day goes on, I kind of forget what I look like. Every now and then I’ll pass by a large window or even a mirror and I’m reminded that I’m not as young as I think I am. James, in his letter in the Bible, reminds us of that. But he talks about it in relation to God’s Word…the Bible. He says that we are not supposed to just listen to God’s word. We need to go out and do what it says. If we don’t put it into practice, it is like us looking in a mirror at the beginning of the day and by the end that day…we really forget what we look like. That’s what happens to us with God’s word. It is meant not only to inform us, but to lead us into action. And when we don’t…it just begins to fade away. We need to listen to what God says to us through his Word…but the key is to do what it says. Because without that, we have pretty short memories and are easily led away from the good and noble things of God. When you do what it says you first, please God. You do what he has asked you and that honors him in heaven and on earth. But second, it builds a memory into our minds and spirits, and we are prepared and ready to do as he has commanded us with little or no prompting from God. So, you and I may have a fantasy of what we really look like by the end of the day, but don’t take on the fantasy of thinking that we really know what God has told us, when we neglect making it the marching orders of our lives.

Here’s our Bible verse for today…

James 1:22-24 NLT But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. (23) For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. (24) You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like.

Remember I’m praying for you…
