Today is Saturday of Easter week. There is only one verse in Bible that uses the word Saturday. In the Jewish
faith system, Saturday is the Sabbath…not Sunday. Imagine what has happened so far. Jesus has come in a
great parade into Jerusalem. Various events take place during that Easter week and then we come to Maunday
Thursday where Jesus celebrates the Passover dinner with his disciples. He is arrested, tried and crucified on
Good Friday. The rule was that Saturday, the Sabbath worship day, began as soon as the sun went down. When
that happened, all work had to stop until the sun came up again. So, there was a rush job to get the body of
Jesus, wrap him up as soon as they could and place him in a borrowed tomb. That night must have been
agonizing. And then the sun came up Saturday morning. There were lots of rules you had to obey…because the
belief was that the more rules you obeyed, the more “in” you were with God. But try to imagine what that
Sabbath day must have been like for those who loved this Jesus of the Bible. Grief, loss, confusion, and just
raw despair. This Jesus had held so much promise, had loved so much and performed so many miracles…and
then he died on a cross on a Friday afternoon. I got to thinking how sometimes you and I find ourselves living
in the “Saturdays” of life. Your life has been turned upside down and now you feel a lot of the same feelings
the disciples felt that day. What they didn’t know…but you do know, is that Friday has happened…but Sunday
is coming! Don’t ever look at your circumstances and gauge your future by the hard things you have
experienced or are experiencing now. No matter how wounded you are…don’t give up on God…because he
has not given up on you. One of the verses that we continually quote to each other at our place is Mark 10:27…
“With men it is impossible, not so with God. With God, all things are possible." So, no matter where you find
yourself in life this day…remember that God’s Sunday is coming!
Here’s our Bible verse for today…
Mark 16:1 NLT Saturday evening, when the Sabbath ended, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome went out and purchased burial spices so they could anoint Jesus’ body.
Remember I’m praying for you…
