Daily Devotional #1,458

It was 1960 and I was just a young kid, but I remember my dad taking me down to the train station in our small town one morning to see something special. We got about a half a block from the station and the street and the whole area was filled with people. We got as close as we could and after a bit a train pulled in and stopped. A man stepped out of the last passenger car and waved, and all the people began to cheer and shout. It was pretty exciting! He talked for just a few minutes and waved and all the people in the crowd cheered again. The train pulled out and the last I saw of him was his waving at all of us as he headed north. My Dad told me that I had just seen and heard John F. Kennedy who was then elected that November as the 35th president of the United States. I think about the crowd’s reaction that day this time each year. This Sunday is going to be Palm Sunday, when we focus on the scriptures about when Jesus came to Jerusalem and the people cheered him as he came into town on the back of a small donkey. Everyone was excited about Jesus that day, but by Friday another crowd was shouting for his crucifixion. Not everyone was glad to have Jesus in Jerusalem that day. And there are a lot of people who these days don’t like him or at best think that he has no importance to the human story. But the Bible reminds us that on that Palm Sunday people declared him as king and hailed him as the promised Messiah. But not everyone. But the promise is that one day this same Jesus, who was raised from the dead on Easter Sunday, will come again. And this time honoring him won’t be optional. Believe in him or not, love him or hate him, follow him or ignore him…that one day every knee will bow in heaven, on earth and under the earth and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Don’t wait until then… get to know him and his love and kindness and you’ll be doing that way before that day.

Here’s our Bible verse for today…

Philippians 2:9-11 NLT Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names, (10) that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, (11) and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Remember I’m praying for you…
With love, PJ
