I went to a great Italian Deli yesterday. My wife has gone there often to bring home some of their wonderful
food and has told me what an awesome place it is with its selection of foods, cheeses and sandwiches. A friend
asked if I wanted to join him there for lunch and I jumped at the chance to see this magical place with my own
eyes. I got there early and went inside to check it out…and I was not disappointed! There was a menu hanging
over a huge “island” in the middle of the store where a dozen people were all making up orders for the crowd
that was in there. I got so caught up in looking at all the good food that I really didn’t look around me. I
noticed that people weren’t in line but just kind of clustered some feet away from where you could place your
order. I finally asked a young man who was patiently waiting what the system was there. He pointed to a
screen that had a number and then to a dispenser where you pulled out your number. And then he explained that
you gave them the order, they gave you a tag, you then went around to the end where the registers were, paid
and then they called your number again to pick up your order. It all seemed so obvious when he pointed
everything out, but I just hadn’t figured out the drill there. It was easy to do and the food was awesome!
Afterwards I started thinking about my experience there. It really was pretty simple…I just didn’t have any
experience there to know right away how to get from point A to point B. And I thought “I wonder if that’s how
some people think about God and his plan of salvation for the people of the earth who want it.” If you have no
experience, no prior knowledge from others…how would you know how to take the simple steps to become a
child of God? You wouldn’t. The Apostle Paul wrote in his letter to the Roman church that everyone who calls
on the name of the Lord will be saved. But if they know nothing of who, what, where, why or how…they are
pretty much in the dark. And there he asks us “How can they hear about him unless someone tells them?” And
then “How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news!” So, remember, if you have this personal
relationship with God…you know and have experienced something that whole lot of people have no clue about.
So be ready to share what you know with people or take the time to invite a friend, neighbor or family member
to join you at church this Sunday. Give them a chance to hear this good news of this loving God of the Bible
who offers them the free gift of forgiveness too! And as you give people a chance to hear and make up their
own minds…maybe someday they will say of you “How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good
news!”
Here’s our Bible verse for today…
Romans 10:13-15 NLT For “Everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved.” (14) But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them? (15) And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent? That is why the Scriptures say, “How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news!”
Remember I’m praying for you…
