Daily Devotional #1,434

There are times when I get hungry for some specific thing. Not just for a snack or even a meal. I get hungry for one thing, and I keep coming back to eat it. It drives my wife nuts! She will see me do this and say, “So this is what you are focused on now?” And what I am focused on now are watermelon chunks. She brought some more home and said, “You know, I couldn’t entice you to eat these last summer and now you can’t get enough of them!” I told her that I figure that there is something there that my body needs…and I just get hungry for that specifically. We all have things like that we really want to satisfy some need inside. I thought about the fact that we all have a need inside that hungers to be satisfied. And that is this God of the Bible and the things that he brings into our lives. Like going into that refrigerator, we want to want God. I admit there are times when I go and open that refrigerator and just stare in there. I’m hungry…but I don’t know for what! And that’s the way our world is out there. They are starving emotionally, spiritually and relationally. And what we need to do is to realize that our deepest longing and real need is God himself. And the good news is, we can keep coming back to him time and time again. And he loves it when we do that. And when we honestly come to him, we will be able to say with the Psalmist “You satisfy me more than the richest feast!” So, like we “listen” to our stomachs…and head to that refrigerator for something we want and need, listen to your heart too. And head to God for something you hunger for and need. Where do you go? Well, you can start with opening that Bible. Ask God to show you himself and feed your spirit from his Word. And like I keep making continual runs to that fridge, do the same thing with God. Keep coming back and use his Bible as the means to connect his heart with the longings of your heart.

Here’s our Bible verse for today…

Psalms 63:4-5 NLT I will praise you as long as I live, lifting up my hands to you in prayer. (5) You satisfy me more than the richest feast. I will praise you with songs of joy.

Remember I’m praying for you…
With love, Pastor Joe
