Daily Devotional #1,430

Well, I saw something else about drivers in my area yesterday. I started noticing that folks here are doing their best to conserve “blinker gas” in their driving by trying to use their turn signals as little as possible. Come on… you know there is no such thing as “blinker gas”! How hard can it be to use your turn signal in your car to let other folks know that you are going to make a turn? And just on my way to church, I saw one person after another make turns with their cars or trucks and just never used that turn signal. The funny thing was that reminded me about a time when I was really encouraging people to wear name tags on a Sunday when we were going to have a lot of visitors and I explained that it just might make people feel a bit more comfortable in their time with us. One person came up to me and said “I don’t need to wear a name tag. I know my name.” I just sighed and walked away. There are so many simple things in our daily life where we can make life for others easier, more comfortable and even safer with so little effort from us. And so often we don’t do that. But people notice when we extend those common courtesies. It says a lot about who we are and what we think about other people. And when we don’t, it says that I don’t think about other people. We need to remember what Jesus said about letting our light shine…to do whatever good works we can…so people could see our love and kindness and then they in turn would want to know about this God that we serve. I know that these are just little things…but little things count in life. So, leave a good impression on the people who brush up against you in your world today. Take time to be considerate to them and let even little things remind them that we have been changed by the love and kindness of this Jesus of the Bible. And let them know that they count as real and valuable people. Let them see something good…it just might be the thing that begins that journey that will lead them to the God who loves them so very much. And remember what one mother said…Good manners doesn’t cost anything!

Here's our Bible verse for today…

Matthew 5:16 EMTV Thus let your light shine before men, so that they may see your good works, and they may glorify your Father who is in heaven.

Remember I’m praying for you…
With love, Pastor Joe
