Daily Devotional #1,427

I was reminded of a story that my Dad told me about his time in Italy during WWII. They had been out on “the line” for some time and he said there never seemed to be enough food and rarely any fresh food. He was a sergeant and was walking with his captain. Over a rise came a young private pulling on a rope with a cow on the other end! The captain was quick to tell the private that they could not take livestock or food from Italian civilians. The private, with a big smile said “I didn’t take it, I bought from the farmer!” Both the captain and my Dad began to think of the best beef BBQ ever, when suddenly the captain stopped. They had been out away in the field and no one too money…or much of it into combat. The captain said “How did you pay for that cow?” The young private said “I wrote him a check!” The captain’s shoulders sank and he said “Take the cow back to the farmer.” The young man didn’t have a check and the piece of paper he wrote the poor farmer would have never been redeemable. It literally wasn’t worth the paper it was written on. People make all kinds of promises…and unfortunately so many of them are never kept. But God is different. The Bible says that God keeps every promise forever! We have a promise making God who is also a promise keeping God. So take time to read what promises God has made to us and to you as his child. And remember that we can put our hope in this God of the Bible because he is our helper and he is the God who never fails to back up what he has said. And when you read in the Bible a promise that he has made you and me, you can take that to the bank!

Here's our Bible verse for today…

Psalms 146:5-6 NLT But joyful are those who have the God of Israel as their helper, whose hope is in the LORD their God. (6) He made heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them. He keeps every promise forever.

Remember I’m praying for you…
With love, Pastor Joe
