I was baking bread last night. I will do that from time to time for us all to have after church. I was thinking
about the people that I love and the joy of being able to be with them this Sunday morning. And I don’t usually
do this, but I began to download songs and sing with them. While I was working, I sang everything from “We
Will Walk on the Streets That Are Golden” to the Beach Boys “Little Old Lady from Pasadena”. I didn’t sing
very loud, but I had a lot of fun! I stopped and wondered why in the world am I just singing…and not just
Christian songs…but doing it just for the joy of singing. And so, I went to the Bible and looked for verses that
talked about singing and why we might find ourselves doing that. The Psalmist wrote “Because you are my
helper, I sing for joy in the shadow of your wings”. I thought, yeah…I am just pretty darn happy in God right
now and so looking forward to worshiping him with my family of faith. I don’t know if it started with me
singing or if it was something that God did to get me singing…but I had a blast baking bread for tomorrow. I
hope that sometime you will have a time of just unbridled fun…all by yourself…because that God of the Bible
is your helper. And when you acknowledge that…maybe you too will find yourself singing for joy in the
shadow of his wings. He is a good God, and he is crazy in love with you and wants you to know his joy and
security. So, if you get that feeling deep down in your heart…don’t hold back…start singing for the joy that
comes from him.
Here’s our Bible verse for today…
Psalms 63:7-8 NLT Because you are my helper, I sing for joy in the shadow of your wings. (8) I cling to you; your strong right hand holds me securely.
Remember I’m praying for you…
With love, Pastor Joe
