I found a plastic wheel to a model airplane one day on the closet floor in my study. The model it went to was
long gone but instead of throwing it away, I put it up on the shelf in the closet. And the crazy thing is that it
somehow ends up traveling to different places. It just shows up and in crazy places and I take it and put it back,
wondering where I’ll find it next. Just recently, I was taking my laundry out of the washer, and I heard
something rattle as I was transferring clothes to the dryer. And there at the bottom of the washer was this same
little airplane wheel. I was pretty tickled to see it there and I returned it to the shelf, ready to see where it would
end up next time. It was silly, but then I got to thinking about that. I never would have dreamed I would find it
in the wash with my laundry. But then again, how many people would have expected to find God joining us
here on earth as an illegitimate child with an animal feeding trough as his first bed? But that’s the way that our
God is. He shows up in the most unusual places in the Bible…to meet people when they need him the most.
And they are always surprised! But what about you and me? Where will God show up for us? One person
wrote that it is the pattern of the God of the Bible… to shock and surprise us in the place we least expect. That
means that in your greatest heartache…he will be there. In your greatest trial…he will show up. And in your
deepest pain…he will show himself to you. So, when things don’t go right in your journey here on earth and
life, expect God to show up. When you are about to ask, “Where are you God?”, that’s where he will be at
work, revealing himself…doing more than you and I could ever imagine. So when life gets hard or frightening
or discouraging…ramp up that expectation of God showing himself to you in his love and grace and mercy and
power. You are not doing this by yourself today…he is with you.
Here’s our Bible verse for today…
Luke 2:4-7 NLT And because Joseph was a descendant of King David, he had to go to Bethlehem in Judea, David’s ancient home. He traveled there from the village of Nazareth in Galilee. (5) He took with him Mary, to whom he was engaged, who was now expecting a child. (6) And while they were there, the time came for her baby to be born. (7) She gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him snugly in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger, because there was no lodging available for them.
Remember I’m praying for you…
