Daily Devotional #1,752

On the night before Jesus was crucified, he gave us what some people call “the 11th commandment”. To those  who were his closest companions and faithful disciples he said he was giving them a new commandment. He  said simply “Love one another”. And the way we were to do that was to take a hard look at how this Jesus of
the Bible has loved us…that’s how we should love one another. And then he said that was the way we would be  able to prove to the world that we really were disciples of Jesus. It wasn’t by our church attendance, our  memorization of Bible verses, how hard we worked or how vocal we were about this Jesus. The proof that we  are actual disciples of Jesus is the love that we have for one another. So how do we actually love one another?  In his letter to the Philippian church the Apostle Paul wrote that love would include being able to work together,  to not be selfish, to be humble…even thinking of others as better than yourself. And to not look out only for our  own interests, but to take an interest in others too. That’s pretty practical stuff. But add to that that we need to
ask for forgiveness of one another and to be ready to forgive one another as well. Love will lead us to show  gratitude to those who serve and sacrifice for us. And in all things, we will show the love and kindness that  Jesus has shown us. How do I know that you are a real follower of this Jesus? By the love that you show to  those around you. Don’t just talk the talk …please let them see you walk this walk. It isn’t easy…or everyone  would be doing it! But your love can change everything for believers and non-believers alike. Show your love  for Jesus by your love for them. Here’s our Bible verse for today…
John 13:34-35 NLT So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you,  you should love each other. (35) Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.”
Remember I’m praying for you!
With love, PJ
